Here at The Independence Initiative, we’re not just about supporting our residents to rebuild their lives, we’re also all about giving back to our local community. Over the past few months, our residents and team have been getting stuck in and making a real difference and we wanted to share some of the highlights!
Litter Pick at Bootle North Park
A few of our residents teamed up with Sefton4Good (part of Sefton CVS) to give Bootle North Park a tidy-up. Bags of litter later, the park was looking brighter and cleaner, and it felt amazing to get out there, roll up our sleeves, and make a visible impact on our community.

Canoeing to Clean the Canals
We also took to the water for a different kind of cleanup! With Canal & River Trust, our residents got on the canals to help remove rubbish and improve our local waterways. Not only was it fun and a bit of an adventure, it also made a real difference to the environment in our area.

Running for a Cause
Our residents love a challenge, especially when it helps a good cause. From completing the 10k for Everton in the Community to taking part in the Run To Anfield, they’ve been raising funds, pushing themselves physically and showing just how much heart they’ve got. And let’s not forget Darren partaking in Kip on the Kop, where sleeping out at Anfield raised money for the LFC Foundation and Liverpool Homeless Football Club. Big shoutout to everyone, you should be proud of yourselves!

Why It Matters
These activities aren’t just about ticking boxes. They help our residents build confidence, boost their wellbeing and feel part of something bigger. At the same time, they’re making a real, positive difference to our local community.
