Activities We Provide To Help Improve Health and Wellbeing

At The Indy, we’ve always believed recovery is about more than just housing or support, it’s about helping people enjoy life, look after their wellbeing and try new things. That’s why we run a whole mix of activities, from walking and cycling, to football, canoeing, gardening and plenty more.

These activities aren’t just for fun (though there’s always plenty of laughs along the way!), they give our residents the chance to stay active, build confidence and spend time with others in a safe, supportive environment.

Our garden

One of the best-loved parts of The Indy has to be our garden. It’s the first thing people see when they arrive and we’ve worked with residents to make it a really welcoming space. From quirky statues to homegrown fruit and veg (which we use in pantry meals), the garden is a place to relax, chat and even learn new skills.

We’re so proud of it that this year we entered Bootle in Bloom! The judges came to visit recently and were really impressed with what they saw. We won’t get the results until October but whatever happens, we already feel like winners thanks to the effort and care everyone has put into it.

Achievements worth shouting about

Speaking of pride, two of our residents were recently selected for the Homeless World Cup trials for Oslo 2025 with Street Soccer! They made it all the way to the semi-final stages in Newcastle and London, which is a massive achievement. It just shows the power of sport in bringing people together and opening new doors.

Days out & community projects

We also love a good trip! Recently, we’ve been to Chester Zoo, explored Shrewsbury Prison and had a great day by the sea in Llandudno. Days out like these give our residents a chance to step out of the usual routine, discover new places and just enjoy themselves.

It’s not just about fun either, giving back matters too. That’s why we teamed up with Sefton4Good (part of Sefton CVS) for a community litter pick at Bootle North Park. It was a simple way of rolling up our sleeves, but it made a big difference in making the space brighter and more welcoming for everyone.

Everything we do at The Indy is about building confidence, boosting wellbeing and creating opportunities. Whether it’s gardening, football, trips or community projects, we’re always finding ways to bring people together and support them on their journey.
