At The Indy, keeping active is a big part of day-to-day life, but not in a “go to the gym every day” kind of way.
For us, it’s more about getting out, keeping busy, trying new things and having a laugh along the way.
Over the past few months, our residents, volunteers and staff have been involved in all sorts of activities, from football and gardening to canal work, litter picks and trips out together.
It’s been great seeing so many people getting involved and making the most of it.
One thing that’s gone down really well has been the football sessions, including walking football with the Liverpool FC Foundation and taking part in the Spirit of Merseyside League. It’s not just about the football either, it’s about getting together, building confidence, keeping active and enjoying being part of a team.
Our garden has also been a busy place recently as we get ready for Bootle in Bloom. From planting and tidying up to rebuilding parts of the garden, loads of people have been mucking in.
We’ve also been working in partnership with students from Hugh Baird College, who’ve been helping reconstruct some of our garden walls as part of their bricklaying work. With materials kindly donated by The Sovini Group, it’s been a real community effort all round.
We’ve also spent time out along the canals doing litter picks and canoeing trips with Canal & River Trust. It’s a good way to get outdoors, get moving and do something positive for the local community at the same time. Plus, you can’t complain about a bit of fresh air when the weather behaves itself.
Then there’s the trips out. Whether it’s heading to Shrewsbury, visiting the British Ironwork Centre or just getting out for the day, these kinds of trips are always a good chance to break up routine, explore somewhere different and spend time together.
The main thing is that staying active doesn’t have to mean doing anything massive. Sometimes it’s just getting outside, keeping busy and being around other people that can make the biggest difference.
At The Indy, we’re proud to create opportunities for people to get involved, build confidence and feel part of something positive.
